I live in Sydney, just 160 km / 100 miles to the South, so not exactly a traveller. Newcastle is a nice place, less frantic than Sydney. It has great beaches, lots of places to dine out suiting all budgets, a very pleasant foreshore area.

Newie has come along in leaps and bounds since my childhood in the city. The downtown area has been completely rejuvenated and has a great, hipster vibe to it that was sorely lacking in the past.
The best beaches in Australia, the best rugby league and A-League team, and world-class wineries on your back step.

As we were stuck in Newcastle and in the hospital for the majority of the three weeks we were there, I couldn't get out quick enough....but in the time that I did have spare to look around, if you get away from the industrial areas, there are many areas around the beach in Newcastle that are beautiful. If you get out towards the Hunter Valley, Warner's Bay or Nelson Bay even better.

Newcastle is a busy port on one side and a beach holiday paradise on the other. There are several points of interest, such as the fort and the lighthouse. Good walking for the fit.
From the transport interchange, there is a useful, very regular, tram (bright red) out to points along the way to these sights. Tap on tap off with your credit card, if you don’t have the local Oyster Card. We found Rydges cafe and Queens Wharf good places to take refreshment whilst watching the ships passing to pick up coal. Newcastle is the largest coal exporting port in the world and watching them move with tugs in attendance is quite relaxing while you enjoy a drink.
The museum gives a good overview of Newcastle’s development, without being too exhaustive. Entrance is free. Give it a go, as it’s next to the Information Centre who are very helpful.
From Queens Wharf there is a short ferry across to Stockton, a small town with a good view of the harbour and shipping from its local park. Take your water and sun hat but toilets are a bit thin on the ground.
I would have liked more time to explore and take photographs. Enough said!

Newcastle was great for a visit and not just because family live there. Great vibe, many cafes and shops, really nice to stroll around the town and get a feel for the place. The river waterfront was really pleasant after a hot day.

Newcastle offers some great activities.
Newcastle offers some great activities. Great beaches, the recently renovated city baths, the Bogey Hole convict dug swimming pool on the cliff edge, Fort Scratchley, Nobbys
Head and lighthouse, Newcastle Memorial Walk, museums and galleries, fabulous cafes, National Parks and weekend markets. So much to do nearby.
The location and facilities were perfect. Great Breakfast and cheaper if you pre-book it at check-in. The team were amazing! We pre-booked parking, which was so easy and convenient with their valet parking. The room was new, modern and spectacularly clean—a great initiative by offering water stations on each floor instead of charging overpriced prices for water like in most 5-star hotels. I highly recommend this hotel.
The location was fantastic with the light rail stop right outside the hotel. We thought we'd need a car in Newcastle but we were able to get around very conveniently with the public transit system. We also really liked having a restaurant/bar in the building and the food was good. We want to visit again! And I would definitely stay at The Lucky Hotel again.
The hotel is beautiful, the property is steps from the light rail, there is a great little bar/restaurant downstairs in a courtyard setting with great food. The terrace in our suite was huge and covered and we spent a lot of time lounging out there. So much history, photos on the walls, a book about Newcastle in the past. Also, best elevator esthetic ever!
The uniqueness of Times Square Terrace is above and beyond... everything matches in it's own quirky way.
The location is very convenient in the centre of Newcastle.
You are supplied everything you need for a home away from home... I was sold at the jar of Vegemite supplied 😍
The property is very clean.
I would definitely recommend staying here!!!
Staff welcomed me on check in and changed my room when I asked.
The room was entirely as would be expected for a three star hotel - the bathroom was a self-contained unit installed into the room; desk was very pokey against the wall, but the room was adequate for a short stay. It was clean on my arrival.
breakfast was nice, good variety of options. Nice size room, comfortable, clean, quiet
I liked the big bottles of shampoo, body wash etc instead of the little bottles hotels usually supply.
car park was easy and convenient.
staff friendly and helpful
good self laundry facilities
good location
Located opposite the station only two stops to get to Newcastle interchange and about a 10minute walk to supermarkets and restaurants. The cleaners were very friendly and was handy having a fridge/freezer, microwave and kettle in the hotel room. Is a cheap and perfect stop for a month or less.
Great apartment, in a great part of town with a wonderful host who made everything extremely easy, and even left a beautiful bottle of wine for me. Could not be happier, will be staying there again on my next Newcastle trip!
Very close to the light rail and the Newcastle museum. Staff at reception and the bistro were excellent and welcoming. Facilities were good eg provision of a lift even through the hotel is old.
Room 111 was clean and comfortable. Good communication. Off-street parking outside the unit. Provided instructions for recycling. Two minute drive to the Matarra Hotel which had a good bistro.
Staff were excellent, the room was clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. Covid protocols were in place and changes in service due to restrictions clearly communicated.
Location was the key to selecting this unit for our stay as it was within walking distance to our reason for being in Lambton. However, next time I will read the reviews.
The rooms were quiet. The sheets and linen were clean. The access into the hotel and room were quite easy which was provided by pin as there were no staff onsite.
